  • Cool place for a future IM maybe?

Very interesting place. Sounds like it's going to be something really special. Lots of potential!

I recall that, but I meant this place specifically. It's in Yorklyn, 55 miles from Dover.

One of the things Mimi talked about in her latest TW message is addressing declining attendance at IMs. Among the ideas she mentioned was smaller cities. That came to mind when I read this article.

(And with that, I probably just blew my own thread OT:))

That place looks cool in Delaware.

I go to the local Steam & Gas Show every year near Baraboo, WI. I have always thought that it would make an excellent venue for a Studebaker meet. The place is huge, has ample parking, facilities, 5 acres of vendor space and room to camp. The location is within five miles of the interstate and is about midway between the Twin Cities & Chicago. It is only 10 minutes from Wisconsin Dells so there are lots of hotels. They recently had a vintage truck show there so I imagine that the club would rent out the grounds.

              Here is an aerial view:

The link to the club: (crappy website, I know) http://www.badgersteamandgas.com/

And yes, I do admit bias as I live a half hour away.

Appears there has been a change of mind about 'smaller cities.' As of Monday's Annual SDC Board of Directors Meeting "ST. LOUIS" was added to the list of future IM sites. At any rate, major changes to the "SDC Meet Policy" would need to be made in order to hold an IM in a State Park.

Let's wait to see what our NEW SDC President thinks about IM's in smaller cities.

...but keep those ideas coming, Bob!!!

My question about smaller cities is do they usually have the facilities for a large gathering of car folks. The need for a show field, vendor space, meeting and banquet space may limit what a smaller city can offer. On the other hand I personally don't like the traffic and confusion large cities sometimes offer. I would like to see smaller cities get some more IM bids. I really am excited about having the 2014 meet in Dover.

I think that the last SDC Convention in St. Louis was the hotest (and with the most humidity) one that I attended (most since 1971), including Orlando, Florida and Las Vegas, Nevada

I am not a gambler, but to me it makes sense to hold the SDC Conventions at gambling casino locations. They have the facilities, space and are lower priced for rooms and food than non-casino locations.

I think many do nowadays. I would love to see one in my own Syracuse, NY. We've got the State Fairgrounds, where the Syr. Nats is held with 7500 cars, their people, and all the vendors, and way more than enough facilities of all types; lots of lakes, many close-by racetracks, three hours from Niagara Falls, and best all- we're NOT NYC!

Even better- my dream location for an IM would be Orlando FL; or more specifically, Disney World Several ideal facilities in and near WDW. If that ever happens, I will be there- with Momma- and at least one Studebaker

I will second that motion; but don't "bet" on it happening anytime soon!!

PS: WOW ...all these new ideas coming from some of our oldest members ...that's is exactly what is needed at this juncture in our Club's history!!!
