  • North Star Chapter - Soggy Memorial Day Show - PIX

Despite the wet weather and a few people getting stuck in the display grounds, we had 101 total cars, about 15 Studes. A far cry from previous years of about 400 cars.

I did not get a picture of all Studes there (due to a few people getting stuck, others stayed out of the display area), but this was most of them.

CC to Milaca: One that was mysteriously missing was a red hawk (Brent - where were you???)

Thanks to all the Chapter Members who devoted their time & effort into a short day!! Much appreciated!!

Well, the car is all cleaned of the mud, and ready for the next event.
I am still waiting for a few pieces of chrome and the top to finish it off.
    Thanks,
    Eric Gohdes

      Yes, pretty severe!
I didn't look too close, cuz it was a very short show due to the weather and trying to get all I wanted to do done, but it looked like plexiglass.

Eric, how did your daughter keep her white shoes from getting muddy?
I've never been to the Memorial Day show because my father's family has a tradition of attending a service at a cemetary in Becker then we have a picnic at a local park afterwards. The ground was wet but it didnt rain on us.
I finally got that red Hawk out of the shed tonight and drove it into town for a filling of non-ethanol gasoline. Hasnt been driven since last Saturday when I attended a Northland Wheels Studebaker chapter event near Motley, and got it soaking wet from the constant rain. What's that noise I hear??? Oh, it's just the sound of my Studebaker rusting.
Thanks for posting the pictures, much appreciated. I dont recall having seen that blue bullet nose convertible before, looks great and so does your car too!

Thought of the show all day as I was doing a million little jobs on the camper, cars and yard. Wish I could of been there. I will shoot for the Jordan car show and Labor Day meet. Take care

Brent, she didn't keep them from getting muddy, the shoes just got out of the washer, all 4 pairs (two kids, wife, and myself).
It was pretty muddy. Way worse than the pictures show. We had at least a half dozen cars just spinning in place as they tried to leave. Too much power I guess. That's why I am glad mine takes off from a dead stop like a ladybug on lunesta.
As for your absence, I must be thinking of Labor Day that I see you there. Well anyway, I will see you somewhere this summer I am sure at a Culver's or whatever.
The blue bullet nose, yes, is cool looking. I didn't get a chance to go read the name, so I have no idea who's or where from. By the time I set up camp, had a Leinie's (okay maybe two or three), chatted with folk, it was darn near time to go.

My car is coming along. Waiting for the rest of my chrome, not real happy about that, it's taking a long time. Problems with the new top fitting correctly. I removed the frame, sanded and painted it, re-installed, and now it doesn't seem to sit quite right. Don't know why or what could have changed. Oh, and then last week my amp light came on. Of course, there has to always be something! I was supposed to actually be enjoying the car by now, not still fixing things!

Eric, thanks for the pics and an even bigger thanks for the great door prizes you donated. Yeah, the weather kept our attendance down this year but we really appreciate everyone who came out knowing full well that they were going to get dumped on. Those t-bucket guys have more guts than I do! When that last cell came rolling through I thought we were going to get hail but thankfully no. It was amazing that the storms finished up right before our noon flag ceremony and the rest of the day was pretty nice. I didn't get around to visit with folks and look at the cars as my danged neck was killing me all day and I stayed busy giving away the door prizes to the folks all huddled beneath the shelters.

I'd never seen that beautiful blue Stude convertible before but it was one of the most tastefully done bulletnose customs I've ever seen. Someone said it was a '52 with a '50 nose. I thought the '54 Chevy taillights looked perfect. The workmanship was impeccable. The only thing I would have done differently would have been to make the enlarged rear wheel openings match the front exactly a la Chicken Hawk.

Great photo shots! Also, for a small gathering of Studes, it was a good mixture of models.

The only thing missing was a big "We invented Cool" banner!

Today, they are calling for record high temps in our area. (High 90's) We could use some of your cool wet weather.

The "We Invented Cool" banner was present but we didn't have an appropriate way to securely display it. The wind was horrendous and we were afraid the banner would get ruined. Were it not for the pvc frame I put around our new chapter banner (see pic below) that would have been blown away. We found enough rocks to keep the ballot box in the same county. We did have the new color brochure and the "Studebaker Story" brochure on hand.

Well...my post should have said that the only thing missing was a "photo" of the banner! You guys are waaay ahead of me. The pvc frame is a brilliant idea. Great work!

No Problem, I will try and have some gift bags for Labor Day as well, and get there when it starts. I stock up on the "99 cents after rebate" or "free after rebate" deals at Menards, even though the Mrs. gets after me for my overflowing garage shelves. They have some decent stuff.
Sorry I didn't give any advanced warning and couldn't volunteer more this time around, but with my convertible top only 3/4 of the way on, I was not sure what the weather was going to do, and didn't want to have to drive in the rain.
My gosh, it was breezy wasn't it. Wind advisory today too!

Excellent work on the PVC frame, nice!

I had thought about driving down from Fargo for that show this year (been probably 4-5yrs since the last time) but a business trip with a flight out 5:25am this morning put all thoughts out. No way I'd have wanted to drive 4hrs home with that prospect. Seems like the weather was not so good for it anyway. As it was, the temps in Fargo rose by about 25 deg in 2hrs monday afternoon from about 60 to 85 with a massive increase in humidity to go with. I mowed some grass in the late pm and it was about 55 deg inside the garage and 85 deg outside (and no AC in the garage!). House windows fogged up. As expected, that mean't some pretty severe weather when the sun set and we had it. Power was out for about 1-1/2hrs starting about 9pm. I had to get up at 3am for this trip and was concerned about getting any sleep at all with the tornado warnings, and high winds and rain. The yard will be a big mess when I get home...

I am in Charlotte NC right now for a couple days and AM NOT acclimated to the 93 deg humid weather. Its barely cracked 70 so far this year at home. Fortunately(?) , not much need to be outside.

Jeff H, keep the Labor Day show in mind as it always has a great turn out. Get your house insulated & sheet rocked before then so that you have time to come!
