  • Got my drivers license, FINALLY! (With the '40)

Today I finally got my drivers license! The whole time up to now I have been driving with an Indiana learner permit, usually with my mom with me. Well, today we went to the BMV and WITH MY STUDEBAKER, passed the driving skills test with a PERFECT SCORE!!! I would venture to assume that I'm probably one of the last people in South Bend to use a Studebaker for a driving test, let alone a PRE WAR one!!! The test giver loved the car. COOL!!!

    Congratulations!

I got my driver's license driving my dad's 1963 Red GT Hawk - the one he purchased new in 1962 from Hamilton.

I still have it, and a few years ago it was displayed in the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto. I just started it up this morning, after a long, cold, wet winter. FIRST nice day.

    Enjoy!

        Great! One of life's milestones.

I got mine in 1962 driving a 1953 Pontiac Chieftan. Of course, back then, the big old straight eight Pontiac was just another used car.

          Congrats!
I owned a Studebaker when I took my test, ('56 Power Hawk) but I used my mom's '68 Cougar instead.
Wish I could find the '35 Packard she took her test with!

Cool beans, Chris; congrats. (Now, 'can't say we weren't warned next weekend for the Studebaker Indiana festivities...hide the women and children!) BP
We've got to quit saying, "How stupid can you be?" Too many people are taking it as a challenge.

            Ayn Rand:
"You can avoid reality, but you cannot avoid the consequences of avoiding reality."

Oh my gosh! I was driven around South Bend last year in a 1940 Studebaker with a driver that didnt have a license??
Congratulations on the perfect score! If I recall correctly, I only got a 92 out of a 100 being that I didnt parallel park near enough to the snow bank along the sidewalk.

Taking the test in a '40 Studebaker sure beats the old '83 Plymouth Reliant K that I used for the test. That car was a death trap! I'm pretty sure they passed me just so they wouldn't have to ride in that thing again.

Congrats, Chris! When I took my road test - in 1963 - we had to use driving school cars. Family cars couldn't be used, so I did my test in a dual control - it even had two handbrakes - 1961 Morris Oxford. On top of that, the tester was someone I knew. His son and I were members of a school band, so I saw him at least twice a week. Before we went for the test, he picked up a copy of our local newspaper. When I did the parallel parking part, he rolled up the paper, opened the door and pushed it down vertically between the car and the curb. If it stood up, I passed that part of the test. It did!

How long between getting your learner's and the test?

That's not bad. It can take up to three years here, depending on the individual.
