  • 1945 and 1946 Pickups?

    Hi,
    Are the bodies for a 1945 and 1946 Pickup the same (parts interchangeable)?
    Is there a range of years where parts are interchangeable?

      From what I understand the M series trucks were made from 1940-1948. The larger trucks have a recess in the firewall to accept the larger engine and there are fender extensions as well as the opening is bigger to accept larger wheels.         1941 thru 1948 trucks were classified as "M-Series". '41-'45 had a "swing out" style windshield with the wipers in the roof panel. '46-'48 the windshield was stationary and the wipers were in the cowel panel. Some early models had chrome grills. 1 Ton and higher capacity with 17" wheels & tires on up to 20" had different front fenders with a larger wheel opening and a 2-3" "addition" where it attached to the main body. Same for the rear if equipped with a pick-up bed. Hope this helps

          The "M" series of trucks were producted from 1941 to 1948 with a sesation of production in early 1942 untill late in 1945 with the reintroduction of the 1946 model year. There was also a limited production of the 1945 model year for the U.S. Army with "C9" cabs (windshild hinged at the top and piveted out).

            Correction to Dan's post above: the pre-war 1941-42 M series trucks did not have the swing-out windshields. Only the 1945 M15s did, as they used the US6 Army truck cabs. As a result, the rest of the postwar M series trucks had an A suffix on their model numbers to distinguish them from the 1945 models. The 46-48 trucks used the same cab as the 1941-42 models.

              Ther were a few civilian M's produced with the swing out windshield and metal inner door panels.left over GI's.

                To answer this with a simple "yes" or "no" is a little hard to do. If both are 1 tons "yes" except for the windshield and wipers. Now engines I not sure. But if '46 is a 1/2 ton then the fenders are different.
                All the '45 M-Series I have seen or heard of are 1 ton. with swing out windshields. Now that is my take.

                  Seems to be a lot of superfluous information here (in addition to some that is incorrect). The original question referred specifically to the pickup (I am assuming the M5). Therefore the answer is a simple YES, all 1941-48 M5 cabs are the same. No swing out windshield, no metal inner door panels and no chrome grilles ever.                     Certainly no disagreement with your posting that all M5 cabs were the same; however, the original poster didn't specify M5 pickups. You are probably correct that he was referring to an M5, but there WERE no 1945-model M5s. There were, however, a few thousand 1945 M15-20 one-ton pickups built -- which did have the C9 cab with swing-out windshields.
