    Nice Prototype

Wow that is the rarest of the rare! I don't think you will be top dog for long unless you bet the farm on it! Lol!

Hmmm...now I wonder WHO would own something as rare as a few hunderd Horn Buttons!

I love that Hawk motif--they shouldda done it.

I love Bob's collection of 57 horn buttons. There is a sort of precedent for that sort of individualization of ornaments. Kaiser in 49, I believe, for their Deluxes only, had bright potmetal trim on the front fender with the name of colour (!) So, driving around a Sportsman Beige, Bermuda Tan, Caribbean Coral or even a Parakeet or Cardinal sounds nice, but what about Mineral Gray or Flax?

Speaking of one-offs and what might have beens, does anyone have a (good) picture of what AC-2976 (1959-60 Lark hood ornament) looks like? It seems it was 'not available' very very early on, and I have heard said that it was withdrawn. I've never seen a 59-60 with one, and supposedly it was quite different than the graceful 1961 Lark hood ornament, AC-3073. (see Bob Johnston site http://www.studebaker-info.org/Archi.../accxnum1.html) There is this one picture on Google (http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedi...ament-still-in)

I also have this NOS hood ornament that I got from a collection of a former Studebaker dealer which is neither of these, and although I have seen an example of another unusual ornament I have (one I've never seen elsewhere) in a display case at the SNM) I am stymied about this one...

The '59-'60 Lark Bird, hood top ornament is the very same one used on '61 Larks, they included a pedestal to level it on the flat, center humped '61 Hood and put a AC-3073 sticker over the AC-2976 Part Number label! I have some like that. Typical Studebaker tactic!

I have no release dates for these to back this up, but I think they never used it on '59's, and possibly released it so late in 1960 that few were sold and or Installed, explaining the excess re-labeled ones used on '61's.

In my March 1, 1961 Parts and Accessories Price List, Book "F"
              AC-2976 Ornament for '59-'60 $5.95 List, $4.46 Whse. Dealer Net $3.57, 6-11 $3.39, 12 or more $3.21

The same prices apply to the AC-3073 '61 with the extra mounting pedestal. So both were still available at that time.

It's getting close to what he paid me for it, and I'd bet that's his reserve.
