  • Hello, and thank you...

... for all the help educating me on all things studebaker. i've been lurking here on just about a daily basis since january of this year, looking for guidance on attempting to "refresh" a '63 avanti r-1. unfortunately i bought the avanti in april '09 without knowing what to look for - i know, stoopid me!!! the avanti mainly sat until i finished up a couple of corvettes i was working on.

well, anyway, when i run into a problem it seems i can always find the answer in the forum's search feature. i've joined the sdc and the north carolina club, and also have both the parts catalog and the service manual.

i know i'll have some questions and request some opinions on various topics - just wanted to "break the ice" and say "hi" first...

            Welcome, Kerry!
Have you heard of the Corvette with the Studebaker engine? It's real; I swear; just can't find the link to the old post.
            I think it was a Champion 170 L-head six.

that would be pretty cool, especially with a R-2!!!

While I did enjoy my '63 R1 Avanti for many years, I think that a Corvette motor works very nicely in an Avanti.

Well, Kerry, welcome to both you and your CorVanti. Personally, I don't like hybirds. However, if yours works, why fix it? After the '63 model year the Avanti wasn't any longer really part of Studebaker and after '66 they branched off into their own direction completely. One might say that Avanti became it's own marque. So, what the heck? The '65s have chevy engines, why shouldn't yours? Sounds to me like yours could be a really nice car. The Corvette engine is a nice one and the parts are readily available. So, instead of spending a mint returning the car to original, why reinvent-invent the wheel when what you have might work very well by itself (did I just say that)?
