  • Who says '58 Packards aren't cooool?

Just how coool is Cleo my '58 Packard?
Try this one one for size~

After a year's worth of trying, I FINALLY made it down to San Diego to visit Cleo. She's been resting in a garage in El Cajon, CA since I balied out of SoCal just over a year ago. Today I opened up the garage, cleared the cobwebs, opened the hood, connected the battery, and cranked her. She sounded strong, so I took the top off her air cleaner, dumped a bit of go-go joice in, and cranked her again.

She fired off in about two cranks!!!

If I had any amount of room to get her out-
we would've went for a spin...

Yessirreee, some of the old girls just need a little prodding and before long they'll FIRE OFFwith sounds that'll make grown men high with envy and unabashed power purrs.

Reminds me of one I drug out of a lady's yard back in '02. It had been there since about '72 & was so rusty that the back window popped out when I jacked it up to remove the locked rear drums and get some good tires on it. when I got it home & installed a battery & cleaned the points, she fired right up AND all 4 electric windows still worked! It was one of just a few in a yard full of old Studes that would run. I still have that engine.

That's sorta my point Jim-- I barely had to work to get her fired up.
The battery seems to have held it's charge all year.
That and just a splash of gas was all she needed to start.

Other cars of mine are a bit more demanding~
but not so with Cleo it would seem!!!

Yup, that's a good battery that'll hold a charge over a looooooonnng period of time like that~~
And have a great time in San Diego! I hear the weather and the whales are outstanding in their tanks.

                Yep, I reckon they're cool.
This one was recently rustled out of the US, and arrived down here a few months ago.

                    Unfortunately, no.
Bruce Neasmith is the proud owner.

                        Bump!!!!

Guess what? Nearly a year after I posted this, I find myself in San Diego again. I don't wanna leave but I will in a few days, only to return in about a week for just a few days more...

But anyway~ yesterday I visited Cleo. I connected her battery and dumped a bit of gas down her carb.
She fired right off!!! How cooool is she and her battery???

                          That's frickin' amazing, Dave!

...I can't believe it's been two years since you left. (About the same length of time since I've been to a Chapter meeting.)...

I made it there Thursday night. It was great to catch up with everyone and shead some light a few topics of interest~ i.e. Avanti #1, a new '58 Packard in the area, and some SW Zone MEET info.
And on Sunday I spent sometime in Ramona helping Linnea out with her '50.

Any chance you'll be at La Palma? I'll be baaack for that!!!

In other news- Cleo let me down as I was getting her back into the garage. I had always had a small pin-hole leak from one of her freeze plugs, but it is now no longer 'small'!!! Her battery is up, but her water level is not so much anymore. Oh well...
