  • C-cab "noise killer" color

    on the firewall.

All pictures Ive seen on restored, C-cabs shows black firewall.

But this stock C-cab has body color firewall.
My Transtar -57 had a black (messy) firewall.
Now, my firewall is cleaned up, and painted Artic White (upper body color)

The best noise reducer I found in Sweden is gray/tan.
I will spray it on the firewall.

Should I then paint the firewall black?
    Or Artic White again,
Or, should I paint it Apache Red? (lower body color)

Or, let the firewall be gray/tan?

How was it colored from factory?
    Thanks.

It depended on whether or not Undercoating was ordered on the Truck from the Factory, Dealer Installed or NOT installed. Undercoated firewalls should be BLACK.

If your C-cab was ordered for export, chances are it was TKD (totally knocked down), shipped in crates and reassembled in a continental assembly plant. Any number of changes were possible in its Scandinavian assembly.
If you run in to any of my cousins over there, say hello!

Leave it Arctic white. My 57 appache red over black had undercoating, red firewall underneath, and i'm leaving the undercoating off. It will never be used as a work truck or see much foul weather from this point on. The undercoating looks like crap, and unless your going for a full concoarse restoration its not going to serve much purpose anymore. I don't even know if the judges will deduct for no undercoating, anybody know? Also the firewall color should be the same as to top color of the cab, the bottom color would have been sprayed last, and only on the outside.

The undercoating is a tar-like substance that originally started out as jet black. Because it remains stick, and absorbs dust, etc., with use, it changes to gray, and does look "old". Think of freshly laid asphalt and how nice and black it looks compared to asphalt that's a few years old. If one wants to have undercoating that remains 'factory new', I would recommend box-liner material as it has similar texture and can be srubbed clean.

I will use the "Damping compound DC-P 500" on the firewall.
I also will spray it inside the roof, and behind the seat. It will isolate the cab from heat, and reduce noise. It is cheaper than the dynamat/liner.
It is tan/beige, but I can mix it white (or black), or paint it when it is sprayed on the firewall.
This is not an undercoat, I will use it to get a quiter truck.

The dash is finished. I have 5 thin layer of "noise killer" at bouth side of the dash, then I painted it.
