The Oct '92 TW issue on GT Hawks raises the question about body color or flat black on the hood, behind the grill.
The June '93 issue resolves this.
It looks like ALL (62-64) GT Hawks had the hood area behind the grill painted flat black (like the area behind the lower air scoop). The area to be painted is pictured from an original '63.
I did mine today...

masked and scuffed

painted (that hood prop rod is Stude PN 1582764

The biggest impact seems to be the lower part. It doesn't stand out like a sore thumb now with the hood closed.
So, like the hood locking mechanism (paint vs leave natural), I'm going by the DOCUMENTED method in TW. I know someone will have seen an original painted body color, but if this car is ever shown by a future owner (certainly not by me
), I'd like them to have something besides anecdotal evidence of these type of things. If judges ever do start discussing authenticity deductions with the owner, showing TW documentation should save the points. Anecdotes probably won't.
