  • Installed GT Hawk Veneer Dash Overlay

About a year ago I purchased a walnut veneer dash overlay kit for my 1963 R2 Hawk from
Jim Kranak and I just got around to installing
it today. The walnut veneer is beautiful and as Jim told me,"This
is the way Studebaker would have done it if they had the money to do so".
The pieces fit perfectly and the grain on the veneers match nicely.
It was very easy to install other than the removal and reinstallation of the gauges, but I
think it was very worthwhile.(Removal of the large gauges first
gives an opening for your hands to get around the small gauges.)
I'm guessing that Jimmijim is still selling these.[?]
I'm including a few photos if you would like see how it turned out.
I know this isn't factory original, but after reading the comments
about judging from the members of this forum, if I take the Hawk to a
Studebaker meet, I would have the car "display only"!

    Oh my gosh! [:0]

    Beautiful!!

I've seen several wood dashes on Hawks, but this is head and shoulders above any of them. Just beautiful.

When can we see some pictures of the exterior of the car?

I hope you have this car at South Bend. You'll steal the show!

I agree, that is the look that they must have been trying for, but could only come so close with fake wood. Looks great.

I don't know if Jim is back in business or not, although I have seen him resurface at least twice since his incident.

How did you finish the veneer?
