  • Another 58 Packard hardtop.......

I just looked at one tonight, a barn car not too far from here that may be 4 sale. Which begs the question: Out of the 659 Built, how many of these critters are still left out there? Trouble is, I haven't seen any really nice restored ones yet, but maybe I'm not looking in the right places. Will be checking old issues of TW, and meanwhile, getting busy on my 58.

There were 675 built. I remember one year that I kept track and, not via Internet or pictures, I saw eight different '58 Packard hardtops. I owned a red & white one with the rare all vinyl optional interior for nine years. I sold it to a used car dealer in Utica, NY. What part of the country did you just find another one in?

Yes, JDP, it's the Florida/Jigsaw Puzzle car. Wheel Vintiques will build a set of 15x6, 5 on 4 1/2 chromed wires with Packard logo hub cover for about $1600, so I can have them on mine, too. Gary, the car I looked at is in the Ozarks region. It evidently was the center car in a rear-end collision, and much of the expensive stuff was damaged. Plus, it has been in storage for a very, very long time. It has some rust, but not extreme. It has some promise though, in that if I were able to buy it reasonably enough-- beween the parts I already have on the shelf and on my present car, I could piece together a good one.

That pic JP posted was also on the cover of a Florida road map I saw at Wal Mart one time. I didn't want to spare the $15.00 for a map of Fl just for the pic. [xx(]

              Maybe it's the hotel owner's car. [?]

It's a advertizing icon for the place, part of the art deco thing.
