I've discovered that a bit of well-written and authoritatively backed information has found a home in the Studebaker Stories section of this forum.
Since we're constantly fielding questions here about the worth and workability of the Stude V8 (vs. BrandX power), this might serve to answer some questions that we see repeatedly.

Just got my TW on Saturday, I bet you loved the article on the Flightomatic as well I don't know if I 100% agree with the article; if it had a first gear start I might be more inclined to be OK with it.

I will say that even the FOM is nicer to drive (from my perspective) than the transmixer in my '05 Impala. At least the FOM doesn't let the car coast when you let off the gas (actually it's nice and "tight," even without a lockup TC the RPM varies only a couple hundred on/off the gas) and it doesn't drop a gear or three unless you really stick your foot in it. After driving this new Ch*vy for almost 20K miles, I appreciate the Stude that much more, much as I wished it had a 3/OD when I got it.

I like the Studie V8. Parts are not a problem and they can 'get you a ticket' any time , any place.

worked on a 96 Grand Prix the other day-under the dash was a button labeled '2nd gear start'---what is this, some newfangled GM idea to save gas,or what???

I had that on my '96 Grand Prix. It was a form of traction control for snowy roads. It would help keep from spinning the wheels (it worked too!).
