  • C-K interest

The 54 coupe Sal and I have on ebay seems to be generating more interest then I've ever had. We have 154 'watchers' that book marked the listing, and I've had a few dozen e-mails and phone calls. It just made the 10K reserve, so the Buy It Now went away, but I suspect some late bidding. (about a hour left) It's about time the C-K's caught on. It's here:

That sure is a beautiful car. Yesterday, my grandad and I went and got a 53 Studillac for Pat Skelly. Talk about a nice car to start a project with...Even had the original tan leather seats. Great shape!

I'm sure he can send you some pics. It's that pretty red/white two tone kind. Looks good.

If it is an original Frick Studillac, then it is a Starliner. If it has factory leather seats, it is only the second 1953 Starliner that I have known of with them. The leather seat option was supposedly only available in 1953 Starlights. That really doesn't make sense and I have never seen a 1953 Starlight with factory leather seats, but I have known of one 1953 Starliner with factory leather seats and owned the leather seats out of another one.
Is the car a Frick Studillac?
Does it have factory leather, not vinyl/leatherette seats?
Is the car a Starliner that started out as a Commander?
Does it still have the Frick identification by the body ID plate?

There is no Frick ID tags. But it is a Commander Starliner (hard- top). With factory, original tan leather upholstery. The seats need a little Armor-all, and they will be fine except for a few tears.

Please do not put ArmorAll on old leather seats! Use a quality leather treatment/restoration product. You want something that you can leave on for awhile and let it penetrate to soften the leather. After the leather is supple, treat it with the proper leather treatment to maintain the surface. Remember that this is the hyde off an animal, not a piece of petrochemical plastic.

Whoever said that Stude's were getting way too expensive didn't look at this auction...
                Very nice car for $11k

I think she got so much attention because the owner kept it all STUDEBAKER,from the engine right down to the wheelcovers! A good lesson here for some of these guys that want to swap SBC's into Studes!!!

I was glad to it go to the person I wanted it to, but was expecting some late bidding. The high bidder bought the car for her dad and he's over the moon about it. I've had 3 e-mails after the auctions end saying they missed bidding for one reason or another and wanted the car if the deal fell though. Ebay is all about timing, i.e., guy intended to hit the Buy It Now before it went away, then thought the auction ended after he got home, and missed it by a half hour.
I had a truck not make reserve at 6K, then sold for a 10K BIN on a relist aone week later, go figure.

I too wanted to make a late hour bid and it didn't work out. But maybe it is just as well. Buying without seeing........well if my dad were alive he'd have a fast trip to the attorney's office to disown any damn fool who'd do that. No disrespect to JDP intended, as I don't know him any better than my dad does. I figure there can't be many stock (or nearly stock)'53/'54 coupes left that wouldn't require a SERIOUS infusion of cash....but then there's my Avanti, so who am I to cast aspersions. It's been said that "there is nothing more epensive than a cheap Avanti"....I beg to differ; there is always the EXPENSIVE Avanti initially. Anyway, what the h**l is money for and therapists ain't exactly cheap, either.

                      wagone and cursed Avanti I
