Regarding the actual pace car and whether it was given to the winner, again Mr. Quinn has prety much all the facts in the Apri 99 almanac. The actual car remained with Studebaker, although Richard surmises that Troy Ruttman may have been given the backup or another.

As for "manufacturing" a convert from a hardtop....
    [:0]

I brought it up first, but not with my sweet hardtop! Just a little joke there. Now if I had a few more laying about...well, maybe.

I've had "numerous" talks with Donald Davidson (Indy 500 Historian) he assures me the 500 museum does not have the 52 Pace Car. He is also unaware of where it might be.
In Dick Quinns article in TW, The 52 Pace Car was not given to the winner, but Studebaker owned it until about 1954. It was then sold to a dealer, it is "assumed" it was repainted and sold as a used car.

Well, I DO have this old thing out back...

There's also two more '52 HT's in the boneyard, and a '52 ragtop too. I sure wish the ID tags were still on it. [xx(][V]

It has an interior done in "grey cloth." It will cost a lot to make a Pace Car which would include a red leather interior. I don't think that a cloth interior was even available in a 1952 Commander convertible.

I have heard that there is a blue 52 Commander convertible with red interior in the AACA Museum in Hershey, PA but I haven't seen it.
