  • SDC's Cruise to Alaska 2011

As you may have read in your April and/or May Turning Wheels (in Mimi's President's Message) an Alaska Cruise is being put together for SDC. Funny story- the day after I got my April TW- the Whatcom County SDC met in the very ferry terminal the boat to Alaska leaves from!!! Except for what was in that April note- We knew nothing about this trip at the time...

    but we do now!!!

    http://www.akferry.com/tours/Studebaker2011.html

Lee Chase is your PRIMARY point of contact, but he has asked me to post this information here. You see~ I'm a member of the 'local' SDC Chapter in the area of the 'jump off' point for the Cruise, and will assist at this end.

Plans are far from firm, but Whatcom County SDC hopes to provide as much hospitality as we can before and/or after the trip. We have lots of ideas at this point~ including a send-off and/or a welcome home party for the AlaskaCruisers.
We have many members in the area who can help out with your preparations for the trip up.
Maybe you'll need a place to store your tow rig while away?
Maybe you'll need parts/repairs after the fact?
Storage, parts vendors, garages and mechanics can be standing by for 'the assist' should that need arise.

There ought to be a local Stude Museum open by then, too!!!

More is sure to come on what looks to be a fun trip~
before and after the Alaska part of it all...

Dang I was getting excited reading the flier, was wondering were I could come up with about $6,000.00 so the wife and my Sudebaker could go.
Then at the bottom 53 hundred ea. not including food on the ferry, or the Studebaker. Another dream bites the dust.

    Ebon...

Second- that $5300 INCLUDES your car up and back,
      so I'm told...

Just add food and gas- then party on!!!

The Model As & Ts can do it-- why can't we ? ? ?

Would it really cost another $5300 for the wife if she came in the same car? I am not sure if that is stated correctly....Does sound like fun though as Bellingham is just 140 miles north of me.

Shoot Bellingham is only 3000 miles from me! This is a trip that I have long dreamed about. I would love to do this, but it does seem pricey. Over 10 grand for a couple, wow. I am not really sure what this includes. Does the price include your Stude on the ferry? What about lodging in Alaska? Maybe I just did not read well enough, but it is not clear to me what you get for the $5300 per person.

By then the Cruiser should be at a point that such a trip would not be a problem, but the pocket book would be the bubble buster.

I wouldn't dream of shooting the messenger. but as I read it the car is not included. (. Vehicles can be added to the package. For those driving on to Anchorage or Fairbanks the fare will be adjusted. Vehicle prices are based on length and width. Ask us for details.)
            Ebon...
I still think this would be a fun and great trip, as much as a stint in the Navy was.

You guys are right- the site is somewhat unclear as to what is included in that $5300 price.
I do know that lodging is included for the ENTIRE three weeks of the trip!!! That'll be either on the boat, or in a hotel- depending on the night. Lee told me that your car (up to 19 feet long as I understand it) is included- it'll be more for longer rides.

On Monday I'll be able to contact my contact in Alaska
and get better answers to the other questions.
              (Lee is unavailable)

Welp~ I just got off the phone with Pat. She's the Lady in Alaska helping set this up.
She says that she'll work the website over a bit to clear up the confusion.

The $5300 is per person. It includes a cabin and/or hotel for you each night of the trip. It includes a car 15.5" up to 19". Shorter is less, longer is more. It includes all of the tours as listed in the intinerary. It also inludes a few meals~ as listed on the same itinerary.

Maybe you'd like to cut your costs by taking the ferry one way, driving the other way, and do the tour in the middle?
Maybe you'd like to cut costs further and wanna drive up, join the tour for a few days, and drive back?
Maybe you live in Alaska and wanna join the tour somewhere along the way?
All of these are options~ give Alaska Ferry Adventures a call.
Ask for Pat- she'll help you out. (tell her SDC sent ya!!!)

I just checked the website, and changes have been made!!!

BTW~ I stand corrected (again) on the vehicle sizes...

"Package includes vehicle 15'6" up to 19'5" if your vehicle is shorter
or longer the cost will be adjusted to fit the length of your car."
