  • Spent the last few days finishing up the floor. Did the final clean up with some 80 grit and painted everything on top with POR15. Just need to touch up a few spots on the bottom side where the undercoat is missing and add some seam sealer. Trunk floor is next, with some epoxy primer and the same metallic brown used on the inner fenders up front.

    • I really like how you painted the inner rear structure with POR 15. I too did the trunk of my Barracuda with it years ago to prevent further rusting from a leaky back glass & it has held up well. Putting a color coat on top of it will insure it will stay that way for many years to come. Nice going!!

      • Thanks again for the continued interest in this seemingly never ending project! That's about to change though, because my plan is to have everything 'good enough' for listing next Thursday night. I could tinker on this thing for decades, but I really need to move it along and actually get some work done on a keeper. It's a nice enough car that's really grown on me, but I have too much history with my '59. It won't be 'done' or a show car by any means, but should be a good car to finish up the details however the new owner likes.

Finished up the trunk today and should have the undercarriage touched up tomorrow along with painting the wheels. Just need to get the decklid put back in place and complete the body work in the rear. Found a little dirt when I sprayed the topcoat, but still turned out ok for a CASO build on a tight budget.

        • The underside got a quick clean up, some seam seal in the patched areas and a dusting of chassis black where I could get to. A hoist would have made things a little easier to do, but it turned out 'good enough' for what the car is. Lack of a hoist also made getting a good picture challenging, but this one turned out fair.

Here's a look at how the car is coming together. Started the body work on the rear half today and hope to get the brown sealer on by Monday. That should leave me with a couple days to finish up loose ends and get the car listed on Thursday. Then I need to think about cleaning up my disaster area of a garage..........

          • Back in the house around midnight for the third day in a row, but finally seeing the finish line. Other than a couple small parts, the paint is to my stopping point. All the trim and emblems are back in place as well as lights, bumpers etc. Cleaned the dust out of the engine compartment, trunk and interior, also touched up some of the overspray under the car. Still need to get the interior put back together, but that shouldn't take long. Have a nice set of '62 wheel covers that go with the car, but can't bring myself to scratch the wheels.

I may not have everything finished up before it's listed, but can tidy up loose ends after the auction is running. Planning on a pretty low starting bid, so hopefully it finds a new home before Winter sets in. It's been a fun project saving this thing from the iron dealer, but probably won't go this far with a non-keeper again. Will I get my money investment back? This CASO thinks so. Will I get something for my time? Just have to see what happens............

                • Usually have a photo of something loaded up on a trailer heading to it's new home, not this time. With exactly two short test trips around the block since the car was put back together, the proud (and brave) new owner showed up in a Scion XB and headed back to Montana driving the '62! I gave him a call a few hours into the 7+ hour journey and he said it was running great with no problems. They left town around seven this evening, so it'll be morning before I get an e-mail letting me know how the rest of the trip went. Here's the final pic heading out the driveway.

                  • Did your eyes tear up a little as it drove away? Are you ready to work on the '59 now or are you burned out?

Yes, yes and yes!!!! Didn't really tear up I guess, but it did hit a bit harder than I thought it would. Removing it from my sig line made it real as well. The '59 will get some things done, but the Marshal is the next project. Need to get that back in one piece and find it a new home. If someone would take it as-is, it would save me from getting more burned out though.........
