Nice restored Commander in Atlanta, originally sold in Columbia is offered by English-impaired seller with Champ engine. Were exported '50 Commanders sold with Champ engines?

The Commanders were not V/8 equipped till 51.That appears to be a bigger Commander 6cyl.

Nice car it will be interesting to see if his reserve is met. He claims $50K of work went into the restoration.

The 246 ci Commander engine that was used in the '50 Commander had the Humped exhaust manifold. This one does not. It appears to be a Champion engine.

Overall a pretty nice car. Notice the serial number plate is screwed to the right side inner fender. And I wonder why it has the Champ 6. Wouldn't it be pretty involved to make that engine fit?

It's a shame part of that $50K did not include a Shrock Brothers steering wheel.

Guys, look again at the manifold, it's definately not a champiom. The flanges on a champion are all in a single row, not canted like the one in the photo.(or at least the two manifolds that i have are all in a straight row.) I believe its a commander engine. Paul

Looking closer, it's not a Champion engine. But it's not a Commander engine either.

Here's what a Commander 6 looks like. Notice the manifold, distance between spark plugs, and water pump are all different.

The little hose between the water pump and thermostat housing made me think it's a Mopar engine. Here's the engine bay of a '48 Plymouth.

Doesn't appear to have overdrive. Would be a screamin' drive back home from Atlanta.
                    Beautiful car, though!

Looks like a nice car and I LOVE that body style, but $50K for a car with a brand X engine? At least if it was a rod with a properly installed V8 the improved performance might make it worth it, but an old MOPAR flathead six?
