  • Hawk NOS door sill plates

Hello. This is my first post on this "new" group to me. Over the past couple of months, there have been 3 seaparate eBay listings for NOS Hawk sets of door sill plates. The first set sold for $600 plus and the next set sold for $400 plus a couple of weeks ago. Now a third set is currently on the eBay board and the price of these is also going up, up, up. My question is this, SI is now doing repos of these sill plates as of last fall ($430) and could this be the reason the NOS ones are now showing up. Has any one seen these new repros and do they really look original??? I know that in the past, SI had sold some repros, but those weren't really exactly correct. And one more thing, who is the one listing these NOS one lately? I believe they have all been listed by the same person in the New England area. If this guy submits to this NG, how many NOS sets does he have.

I saw them at Omaha, Last fall. Looked pretty good. I thought the price was only about $230.
These are imbosed not etched and it look like they curved also. I would try them if I didn't have a good set all ready.

I've got a set leaning against the wall not 20 feet from where I type this. If you find a good pic of some NOS to compare, post back and I will take some pics of the repros.

        good luck

Thanks for the responces. You may be right that the SI price for the set is $230 and not $430.

Nate, the currently listed NOS set on eBay is:
            item number: 160084710528
Item title: 1953 - 1957 Studebaker NOS C&K , Hawk Sill Plates RARE
            http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...DME:B:AAQ:US:1

They have posted some kinda close-up pictures of the NOS ones, including the backside which still has the part number stickers on them.

                Feast your peepers on this:

                http://home.comcast.net/~njnagel/ima...s/DSCN0102.JPG

Just so happens that I haven't put them out in the garage yet (it's full of disassembled VW at the moment) so I just snapped a few pics of them, this one shows the detail the best.

if you want more pics before making a purchasing decision send me an email at njnagel at comcast dot net - I'm bumping up against my web space quota again and I'm not motivated to clean it out as I'll be migrating my web site over to a new server probably later this week.

IMHO the new SI units look pretty darn good. They do have a slight curve to them; I can't tell you whether or not it perfectly matches the curve of the rockers but it is definitely a respectable effort. I'm almost afraid to put them on my car; I have visions of forgetting what I'm driving and knocking the mud off my boots against them and/or slamming the seatbelt tongue in the door, which would cause a large amount of cursing... they are aluminum, after all, as were the originals. It would be nice if they were stainless steel, but I'm sure that would have made the tooling costs astronomical.

IMHO unless you are doing a full on show car I'd use the repros anyway; NOS is, well, NOS and you will pay dearly for them and they are definitely a part that gets beat up with use - and the SI repros are pretty decent.
