I always thought that his #43 STP sponsered Dodge Charger was the best looking NASCAR car of all time ...

Here are some pics from our trip to the Petty Museum in Randleman,NC. I liked the old museum in Level Cross a lot better!

Here is another view of that Charger:

Here is a Monte Carlo in front of the Charger:

Here is the most visually striking of his cars-1970 Superbird without the STP badging:

Some of the hardware The King brought home with his STP sponsorship:

Just some random thoughts, but I have several #43 Petty STP cars on my train layout that were made by Hot Wheels.

I've lurked on this board for years, have attended LaPalma for years, and have never posted because, well, I don't own a Studebaker.

But I do know the son (Rick Salvino) of the guy (Ralph Salvino) who ran STP racing, and signed Petty to race for Studebaker.

The bad news is I don't have his contact info.

The good news is I can tell you how to reach him. He is on a slot car bbs slotblog.net under the wing car section, or you can try Buena Park Raceway 714.827-9979 as he is a regular there and will be there this weekend. Tell him the guy who knows what STP really stands for sent ya.

I think Richard Petty was the King of Merchandising as well. You would have to see ALL of the toys/pens/jackets/photos/hats/models/boxes of cereal/firearms/etc. emblazoned with the various sponsors logos and the #43. Literally THOUSANDS of items endorsed by Petty. They are on display and the collection and assortment is mind boggling.

I just think the teams signed up with STP just so they could wear the cool STP pit uniforms!!

Or they just wanted the decals because there appears to be 1001 uses for them. Such as sun screen and UV protection for your eyes!
Or a place to keep your pens too!

Welcome, Bill. If you've lurked here for years, you know that owning one can cause even more problems in your life than you may already have! So, you're smart, live in a great climate near my beloved Altadena and finally realized that you don't have to own a Stude to have little Studebaker connection gems like your first post. [8D] Thanks. Don't be a stranger.
