With the electrolytic system, you don't have to wire brush anything "before and after", usually a water rinse and maybe a rub with a Scotch bright pad will take you down to nice metal. The solution never wears out, but if it gets too rusty, I pour it on the lawn. It's not toxic, only rusty water and a washing soda. You have to try it to believe how well it works.

I have used the Eastwood tumbler for the last three years with excellent results. I have put anything that would fit into the basket and whatever it was, bolt, nut, brackets, hardware came out clean. My only complaint was having to listen to the racket.

Here's one model of the vibratory tumbler from Harbor Freight, though listed at $59.95:

Caswell Plating has kits for putting black oxide coating back on bolts, though my experience with using it and putting clear overcoat on it was that it isn't too rust resistant. I might have over-baked the clear coat, though.

I just tried this on a rusted stuck distributor, one overnite soak and ALL rust dissolved, freed up the distributor and not one drop of sweat lost. Impressive material. Better living through chemistry I guess.
