  • 64-66 inner fender sheet metal question

Hi guys. The inner fenders on the 64-66 are 3 pieces welded together. I have heard the piece behind the headlights on the dual headlight cars are hard to find.Any truth to that? Thanks!

Ask Ed Reynolds as SASCO may have had some in stock.

Yes, SASCO was out of them quite a while before they closed.

Also many used ones are rusted out or mangled and can't be used for spares.

The three pieces need to be fitted to the car before welding.

Could always consider switching to the '64 single headlamp style... I thought I read somewhere that those pieces were still around someplace.

The headlite mounting panel can be converted to dual can it not ? I have not looked at them side by side in a while. I was thinking there is enough material to do so.

Hi I have purchased a set of single head light pieces from SI,as my fenders have the dual lights, these are good used condition,no rust.

I also think there are 2 types for dual headlights because some had brackets at the bottom for weights on convertibles and possible slide roof wagons.Ed

I think the weights mounted on the grill panel.

I picked up some parts when SASCO was closing and was looking for those panels, I think they're called air deflectors.
Dennis told me they only had one side left(for dual headlights), I can't remember which side it was but I bought one.

The "weights" on the convertibles (at least the 62's) are bolted to the front nose panel. And they are NOT fun to install by yourself! LOL

Behind that grill panel for the convertibles weights, attached to the front inner fender panel, are two sheet metal brackets that are either spot welded, or just welded on. They don't just hang on the front panel. The long weight bolts hold it all together through the front panel, weights and those brackets on the inner fender to diminish any cowl shake.

We are actually talking about the "Baffles" or "Air Deflectors", these are BEHIND the headlight buckets and WELDED to the Inner fender, and one side or both are now NLA.

The '62-'63 grille PANEL is related somewhat to this discussion, but not '64's and yes the 2 Hd. Lt. '64 [u]GRILLE</u> can be converted to 4.

On '62-'63 Larks, the Convertible/Wagonaire WEIGHTS are on the FRONT PANEL. on '64's they are on the lower chin pan (stone pan).

Nomenclature, it'll bite you every time! Lol!

Here's the front of my 66:

Note that there is plenty of room to cut for the dual buckets, but that the hole for the single buckets is quite large - the excess area will need to be filled in.
