Starlite51, I have one, it's off a '42 4dr. I don't know the condition, cause it's in the back seat, and I haven't been able to open any of the doors. I'll try harder if you still need it. I'm going to part the car out. and what I need is the front clip, if it will fit a 2dr. coupe. My coupe must of ran in to the back of your friend car :-)

can you confirm a '41 Champ deck lid will work on a '42?

The 42 sedan that they have is marked as a 41 in yellow marker on the body but is really a 1942. I've already picked a few small parts off it. They also have a couple of 1939 and 1940 or 1941 coupes, vary rough. I wonder if they are looking at then instead. What makes you think a 1941 sedan deck won't fit.

French Lake was closed on Monday .. got to them on Tues

the 1942 they have is a 1941 and it won't work

but we have determined a 42 or 46 will work

so keep your radar on -- we haven't found one yet ..

The deck lids and doors are not interchangable. Commander is a larger car.

Did the '42 Commander and Champion use the same deck lid? obviously the front clips are quite different, what about the rest of the body shell? do doors interchange between Champions and Commanders?
Nope, I've never owned either, but was just recollecting that the "famous" "Studebaker in a tree" was identified as a '42? Commander. (I stlll haven't got around to taking in that sight- but local family members are familiar with the location)

Gary is correct. 41, 42, and 46 are all the same car. Just different trim.

he is calling French Lake today

We are under the impression that '46 '47 lids might fit too

does your '42 coupe use any parts from post war cars like 46 & 47's?

and much thanks for the lead I will let you know what he turns up

A 1946 Studebaker is a warmed-over 1942 Champion, so I would expect the deck lid to fit. A 1947 Champion is a completely different car (First By Far With a Postwar Car) and body parts will not fit the 1942.
