  • Studes at the 2010 Vista Burger Run (pic warning)

Every year Pepper Tree Frosty in Vista, CA. hosts the Burger Run, one of the largest one-day rod shows in SoCal. Yesterday was a gorgeous 75-degree day and there were probably a good 1,000 cars spread out around old downtown. I didn't do my usual obsessive photography, but I did catch several nice Studebakers:

This nice '54 Starliner was very clean. Its Chevy engine had triple carbs and Offy valve covers for a very vintage look; the owner also swapped in a GT Hawk interior. I only got to chat with him for a moment, but he told me he'd had the car for about 6 years and did all the work himself.

Here's a nice '50 pickup with a mild custom treatment, also Chevy powered.

Finally, San Diego SDC member Brian Lepis brought his '63 R-1 Avanti, looking very muscular running black steelies and skinny tires, and boasting an ultra-sanitary engine room:

Last, a few cool non-Studes I hope you'll enjoy. It's rare enough to see [u]one</u> Henry J, but this show had [u]two</u>! One gasser-style, and one done up as a street killer, both extremely nice:

Also, not one but [u]two</u> Willys Americars, a sedan and a pickup:

    A couple of my personal Brand-X favorites, an evil-looking black-on-black '57 Olds 88 hardtop, and a rarely-seen '55 Lincoln Capri convertible:

Finally, a couple of wagons that really called my name. A gorgeous custom purple-on-white '56 Dodge Sierra with matching leather interior (for sale at $35k):

...a mean '52 Rambler surf wagon owned by the proprietor of a local wing-n-pizza joint:

...and a car I haven't seen since the age of about 10, a 9-passenger, 352-equipped '60 Ford Country Squire with about an acre of glass and pristine red-and-white interior:

There were too many more great cars to even see, let alone photograph. It was a great day! And yes, I drove Barney and parked him with a stack of "The Studebaker Story" pamphlets tucked under the wiper [8D]

Like, wow, man. Great pics, thanks for them. I could stand to see a pic of that T-Bird that is reflected in the Willys car side.

Nice group of cars, Wish I would have known I would have went.
I'm confused though, Was it in Vista?
I live in Murrieta only 20 or so miles away and would like to attend next year.
Does it have a regular set date each year?

          Dean.

You're lucky, Bob - I happened to snap that one!

Hey Dean, yes, it's in Vista around the beginning of the year. Check out www.burgerrun.info for details.

There's also the Vista Rod Run that happens in August, in nearly the same location. Not quite as big, but still gets a good 500 cars each year.

Very nice cars and show. Extra points for the 348/409 swapped into the 54. Definitely something different.

Thank you for posting the picture. Some great looking cars and trucks. We won't have a show around here like that for several months.

The '54 Studebaker got 3 1/2 pages in Rod & Custom August 2007. I don't subscribe, but I picked up the issue for an article on wiring, as well as the Stude content. Besides the '54, there are two '32 Fords (on the cover) both sporting Stude V-8 power, and another '32 with a SBC wearing Stude valve covers.
