  • Barn Find Land Cruiser!

Some of you may recall the Christmas story I did for TW a few years back. I'd done a number of illustrations for that tale and Art did use a couple of them, althought they didn't show up that well 'cause I worked with pencil.
Anyways, in my Great Office Shakeup of '09, I came across one of the unseen drawings - one of Ol' Stu in his misery, literally sitting in an old barn.

    1960 Larkvertible V8

    1953 Commander coupe
    1957 President two door

No deceptive flags to prove I'm patriotic - no biblical BS to impress - just ME and Studebakers - as it should be.

        YEAH DICK, it's ugly.[V]

Matthew - wow! Life imitates art. [}] I'd say Art imitates life, but I don' wanna hurt his feelings.

That reminded me of an old photo I had showing where I found my 55 president and my 51 land cruiser in 1987.

Why does it seem that if you go to an old farm and ask the owner if he has any Studebakers, he says "Yeah, got two in the barn. Unrestored." And guys like me cant find an unrestored one for sale?! (I did find one by the way, and am getting it) Shoot, when I was living on the farm a few years back when we bought it, all it had in the shed was a bunch of scrap tractor parts and a dead raccoon! And the neighbors had a Lark![}][B)] Im done now...[]

Biggs, it was in a rural area in the middle of South Carolina. Just thought it might inspire you for some more sketches. I think I have some more photos somewhere. If I find them, and have the time, I might scan them for some future posts.

Gee, Mr Biggs! Your fella even looks like a character out of CARS. Actually, the headlamp-eyes look like Bennie the taxi in Roger Rabbit. Neat drawing.

Barn Finds are wonderful. I found a '50 two door a few weeks ago but the owner would not sell.

Studebakers in barns are not necessarily "lost", nor are they a barn "find" if the owner knew they were there!

A few years ago I went to an auction in Petaluma CA. There were cars of all sorts in there. 56 Sky Hawk, Larks, 50/51 Commanders, Wagons, and a bunch of parts. I regret that I did not take pictures of that site. It was truly spectacular. I wonder if Roy Valdez or others who were there have any pictures of it????

Mr. B, I love the drawing, especially the headlights.
                              Very clever.
