Removed what had to be the worst tires that still held air I've ever seen and replaced them with some Michelins 235/55-17 rear and 225/45-17 front to get a little of the Stude Rake.

I like the way the rear tires fill the wheel wells and I was able to eliminate the spacers that were on there but I think I should have gone a little bigger on the front. Car drove well and I eliminated the rubbing that occured on hard lock but I have mixed feelings on how they look.

I have working power windows and re-inforcements on the driver's door, new tires, two matching and working front signal lights, and a driver's door panel that is actually attached to the door. Made a lot of progress and my repair costs are less than $1,000, so far.

Had its first real shakedown drive today and thankfully there aren't too many issues to deal with. The dash and the steering wheel sit lower than the '64 and the steering wheel feels even smaller than the Nardi I have in the '64. Wind noise is about the same between the two of them but engine noise is much lower in the '88. There is additional sound deadening under the car in the trans tunnel and I think that's got a lot to do with it.

While I had the tires off I got under the car and was pleased to find a 3.08 Positraction rear. Looking around under there I see the shocks are original but off the shelf Chevy stuff. I have fronts, rear, and air shocks in the garage that would fit. No doubt it's a California car from day one. The underside is dirty but rust free, my El Camino should look so good.

Lots of "Rattle Can" cosmetics left to do but it's getting
    presentable.

On the road, congratulations!!. It's interesting to me to read about the comparison between the new ride and the 64. Waiting for
the trip through the car wash.

It's sitting in the pouring rain right now. The car definitely has water issues, carpets were wet when I got it and there was a table top hair dryer and extension cord in the damp trunk. Headliner doesn't look like it's been subject to moonroof water though.

Fortunately, I don't have to worry about the floors rusting.

It looks better in pictures. Paint is thin, and needs lots of chips touched up. Good thing it's white.

            BTW,somebody wants to say hello

That S-coupe looks exactly like the one I grew up next door to (sans the chrome skirts). What a great memory!

Lookin good Bigi, i want an Avanti or Avanti II so bad i can taste it, warts and all. May put my Conestoga on the market if the economy ever turns around.
Anyone have an Avanti or Avanti II to trade for a 55 Conestoga?

If it wasn't for the last minute i'd never get anything done.

I don't know... that's a pretty nice looking wagon and the Avati is a lot more common than your car, for sure.

I agree the Avanti has a certain cache but if you haven't driven one I would definitely recommend a test fit. I'm not that tall but I'm a little wide and the '88 has barely enough head room and the '64 has barely enough leg room. They are both very cozy, shall we say.

The great Nick Berger states that Avanti's fronrt seat rail can be augmented to provide additional leg room. His Avanti Cristine, is an amazing machine........CHIPs love to give him the once over when she comes out for a ride!
