  • Celebrity Studebaker (NOT Avanti) owners

I'm splitting this off the Aunt Bea thread - what other notable persons
have owned a Studebaker, NOT including Avantis? I'll start off with a couple.

James Mason, actor (20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, North by Northwest)
1961 Hawk, according to an Studebaker ad.

    Roger Ebert, 1957 Golden Hawk

Carl Gottlieb, actor and screen writer (Jaws) 1963 GT Hawk

    Russ Farris
    1963 GT Hawk R-2 4-speed
    1964 Avanti R-1 Auto

I'd forgotten about George Bush Sr. I think it was a 47 Champion.

Just remembered Ralph Nader said the only car he ever owned was a 1949 Studebaker! Russ Farris

No wonder he was anti-cars. [)]

Bob Palma, Ted Harbit, Richard Quinn, Dick Steinkamp, Jim Pepper, even Bob Kabchef. All notable, no Avantis that I know of.

Ted does have an Avanti. "Son of Chicken Hawk". But he does own/drive/race other non-Avanti Studes, so it's okay.

I'm going out on a limb here...but I'm pretty sure that Sherwood Egbert and Raymond Loewey each had a Studebaker

Arthur Godfrey was presented on national television with a yellow 56 hawk . My mother graduated high school with his daughter here in loudon county va. His show was what got Patsy Cline her start in the national fame, also from here in Winchester.

I stand corrected. I have heard of this "Son" but have never seen it. I would have never guessed it was an Avanti. I've never seen him with it at a meet and haven't yet seen him race it. [B)]

That's cause he's still building it, Dave.

Here's some older pics from JP's site.

I hope the fiberglass body doesnt crack up when all of that horsepower is exerted to those massive tires. Ted's Avanti looks awesome!
