You'll excuse my extreme myopia but WHY are you painting this car?

It looks better in the pictures than in person (as is usually the case). This car had a body off resto in 1980 and driven very little since. The interior is perfect. Chrome and stainless are show quality. The engine was rebuilt at the resto (bored 30 over, etc.). Chassis and engine compartment are super clean. It's a relatively rare 4 speed car (one of 49 built in Hamilton). Runs and drives like a new car.

The paint just isn't up to the rest of the car. A lot of garage rash. The paint job in 1980 wasn't great. Orange pealy, not consistently shiny. I think I did fine on the purchase price of this car. Even with a pro base/clear paint job I'll be into it well under market (IF I ever decided to sell it).

It DESERVES the new paint [^]

Aside from the air dam, it looks like this car is about ready for assembly AFTER a repaint!

As good as it looks now, and you think it needs painting, I can't wait to see the finish!!! [][8D]

You'll excuse my extreme myopia but WHY are you painting this car? The hood on the front shot looks like it was painted by Tiffanys last week. My '07 Jeep (Commander, of course) should look that good. Can't wait to see the April pics.

Dick, don't forget to wax and greese it and use a little comet with a scotch brite before you dump it off.
Say that again, Mike...not sure I understand. I'll watch your lips this time .

Ha! I heard it snowed in Santa Monica. What do you think it will be like in the Bay area?
It HAS to be warmer than it is here [^]. The average for the month is supposed to be about 45 F. We've had many days in the teens and not many above freezing (started to break today).

Do you miss that Bay Area weather Paul?

I took the Hawk apart over the last couple of days to get ready for paint prep. I still need to tear down the doors and remove the tail lights. It comes apart like it was assembled yesterday .

I'm off to California for a week or so to see the kids (and get out of this unseasonably cold weather up here ). ...

Although this car is essentially the same as my '54, they are VERY different. My wife (not a car person in any way shape of form) remarked how MUCH this Hawk NEEDS the chrome and how the '54 was SO much better off without it. Go figure.

To bad that the foam don't turn to gold dust instead of orange
My uncle has lived in LA since before WWII, and he can't remember it ever been as cold as it was this week.
