He is bringing it home tomorrow. It is a 52 Commander. Looking at some pictures it now looks like a set up out of a 57 Golden Hawk with an R2 air cleaner. I will check it out when he gets it home.

A friend of mine is buying the ugly fourdoor hot rod from the person who bought it. After it went across the block he discovered it had an R2 drive line. Will look forward to pictures. I forgot my camera.

Hi Bob- Sorry we didn't get a chance to talk more over in Mesa. I'm happy the rain gods were looking after us. I drove the convertible over and back the 45 miles each way and kept the car clean. The 54 Starliner was in the paper with a $17,500 asking price so he did ok. A friend of mine is buying the ugly fourdoor hot rod from the person who bought it. Saturday here in Phoenix started out with the continuing rain from Friday. However, because the Grand Canyon Chapter was holding their meet out in Mesa that day, the weather gods appropriately ended the rain at precisely 10 a.m. when the event began. And you don't think Stude people have any pull? Ha!

Anyway, I was pleased to attend for a while, along with my wife and two great friends from Phoenix (he's a Chebby SS guy who has now decided 64 Daytonas are the bees knees thanks to Denny Lockman's way cool convert!)

It was nice talking with folks there (even if for just a little while)... and, of course, that patented Richard Dormois enthusiasm set the tone for the day. I am at Starbucks this morning (having one o'them 6-buck cups of coffee) and forgot to bring my camera. I will upload some pics from the meet this evening.

On the way back from Mesa to Barrett-Jackon we stopped at the Silver Auction. There were a lot of nice cars, mostly muscle, and the bidders were more "Studebakerly"...I don't think I saw anything climb much over 30 grand (many didn't make reserve, though).

The lone Studebaker I saw auctioned was a nicely done 54 Champion Starliner. Six, of course, with AT...black & white. I was surprised that it went for $19,000. I thought it would take a V/8 motor to get to that level. I didn't get the chance to talk with the new owner but he looked quite pleased with his new Stude, and that's all that really matters in the end. The seller looked "very" pleased as well. On the way out I happened upon a VERY nice yellow/white 56 Sky Hawk in the parking lot. Had that been an auction car I would have been compelled to get me a bidding number! BTW, never did get back over to Barrett-Jackon.

Well, the car stuff is over for me. Today we are headed to Nogales, Mexico where we'll have dinner at La Rocca, my favorite Mexican restaurant on the planet. No tourist food there I can tell you!

This ends the Barrett-Jackson experience for yours truly. Worth going? Aboslutely! The admission cost is pricey ($40 to $55 depending on day) but, hey, you're on vacation.

Now I'm going check my Powerball ticket...feelin' lucky....maybe I'll be in the front row of the next B-J auction. Hey, it could happen.

From the photos it's tough to be SURE, but it's green and appears to at least be CLOSE to the factory green which was called Forest Green.[^]
