I See the '51 Champ. Starlight Cpe sold for $15,400. I don't think he made very much. He paid to have every thing done and I think the original price was around 8,000.

I believe he (B-J) gets 8% comm. from the seller % 10% from the buyer
+ a fee for putting it in the auction. It's no wonder he jumps up & down when he sells something like the GM Future Liner bus for $4.2 million. When you attend it's $30-40. a day to get in + a fee for a bidders card.
On the bidders card is a disclaimer notice that they only repeat what the seller has told them about the car & they are not liable if it's untrue.
I attended the Kruise auction in Auburn Ind. to bid on a 58 Packard HT. Kruise claimed it was the fastest Car ever built by Studebaker
was factory supercharged & had a 160mph. speedometer. Some monied collector paid $19,000. for it & it wasn't that good of a car.
It makes me feel ill when I see what prices they get for some cars,as I feel they are pushing the prices to the point where it will be out of the reach of the true enthusiast & all it does is make the big auction houses a lot richer!

If you are building a car for that type of auction, don't waste money on a correct restoration since the bidders won't know the difference. Make it pretty, swap some parts around and watch it go nuts. Th M series truck coming up as the "finest" is far from stock for example.

Does Barrett-Jackson liberally lubricate the crowd with spirits? That's what Kruse used to do when I worked an auction or two of theirs years ago.[}]
