  • Trunk Light Question

The trunk light does not work. The base for the bulb is different from others found on the car. Can someone tell me about this particular base[?].

Thanks to anyone willing to try to help me with this. Yes, I did check the bulb.

It's a mercury switch. When the deck lid is open, the mercury goes to one end and that's what makes it shine. Maybe someone here will have a fix.

      Matthew-

I thought it might be some type of mercury switch. I tried turning it over when I had it hooked up but it didn't light up. Thanks for letting me know that it is that type of switch.

Try turning the headlights on and then opening the trunk
My 55's trunk light only works that way
        Not a mercury switch

Thanks to all who have responded to my question.

I used my battery by putting the wire that comes out the bottom on one post and touching the housing on the other post and nothing happened[:0]. I tried the bulb in another bulb holder with the same setup and the bulb lit up. I tried placing the unit in different positions but it still didn't light up.
