58 Packard Wagon FS NY

Looks VERY nice, however as we know, a little caution needed for a NE car. Looks to have been spared our winters- might be an out-of-state car. If someone is seriously interested I could go and get a good look and pictures of the frame and underside:

Interesting combination of interior vinyl and fabric. The third seat material matches the door panels, but the other two seats are different. What would the interior have looked like when new?

I think it's a good-looking car & probably came from a salt free state & certainly rare.
One query,the air breather has a hole in the side to accept a tube of some sort,is this a replacement for original as I do not remember such a hole on my 58 Packard HT that I owned in the past

The hole in the air cleaner look like part of the early smog system used in California, the hose from the road draft tube should be going into the base of the carb, and the hose from the valve cover would then go in to the air cleaner, what they have here is the blow by from the rear of the engine going right back into the engine by way of the valve cover, it should be going in to the base of the carb to be re burned, if for some reason this is a full flow engine and made to look like an original then the back hose needs to go into the base of the carb with a check valve in line or the engine will not run right.

I owned this wagon back in 1976. Bought it on Pangborne st. in Lakewood Ca. for 600.00
Had it for 3 years. Interior is Not correct, was cloth and vinyl originaly. a/c has been added. Was not two toned originaly and the luggage rack has been added. Times were tuff back then,having 50+ cars. Had to choose between the black hardtop and the wagon. the hardtop won. Sold it to "Crazy George" up in Apple Valley. he painted it tan and white. Last time I saw it was at La Palma in 1981. Sometime the the mid 80's it was sold to someone in NY. I think someone on the list has a picture of it stored it a barn back in NY. with a bunch of other cars. It was on Ebay earlier this year. Bidding up to the high teens but not sold.

Yeah, I saw this car at some meets in the LA area in the early 80s. Made me lament the one I'd sold in early '81. I'd paid $600 for mine also. Found it in north Georgia about 76 or 77.

Compared to what Peter started with, he did an outstanding job getting it to this condition. He is a very honest guy and I am certain that the car is correctly represented.

Personally I like his other 58 Packard Wagon better. It is one of the best color combinations and looks absolutely perfect.

As an aside to this topic, is anyone keeping a roster of the '57-58 Packards? I know Hal Hermann was, but he hasn't kept up with it lately. It would be nice to have an up to date list.

What an absolutely GORGEOUS car![] However, if that jumpseat is an example of what the original upholstry was... I'd have re-done it too.[xx(] Then too, the seriously over-the-top styling of the '58 Packards is just not my cup of tea. Didn't these cars come with a supercharger? Maybe they had to remove it because of the smog thing?

Yes, sorta. I started to compile a roster of all 1956 to 1958 Stude and Packard sedans a few years ago, but have since had to put that project on hold due to to life changes. To be honest, the Packard side of the list is quite small... [V]

Ron- you ask every time we see a '58 Packard here, and the answer remains the same.
The only supercharged '58 Packards (that we know of) to leave the factory were the Packard Hawks.
