The story about Raymond Loewy is that he could travel by boat, train, car, bus, or plane and it could be something in which he played a part in the design. His autobiography "Never Leave Well Enough Alone" is an interesting read. He was considered America's first industrial designer and he was on the cover of TIME magazine on October 31, 1949. The 1932 Huppmobile was one of his first automobile design efforts. His career was based upon the paradigm MAYA--"Most Advanced Yet Acceptable."

Two of my USN ships were 'banana boats'. Built for Matson for the Hawaii-California trade but acquired by the Navy . These hat pins pay homage to that history. (Pay assn. dues 3 years in advance and get a pin).
HEY, you're not Wilbur!

The Famous Raymond L.
Tonight at dinner my mother remebered a friend of our family back in the 40's and 50's.
This fellow owned part interest in a steamship company and as a kid whenever the any of the ships were in NY to take passengers rather than bananas he would throw a party onboard the ships. As a kid I rememeber being allowed to pull the cord that sounded the steam whistle. Just now I googled "the Panama Line" and look what showed up
BG
Our friend RL had his hand in everything.
