  • 'Big Ugly Studebaker' bus at Cedar Rapids Videp

One fun thing that was a hit at Cedar Rapids was the "Big Ugly Studebaker" BUS that took people from the host hotels to the show grounds.
Everybody took a swipe at it with their pens...
    Well done!

You couldn't miss this thing, It was a nice option to use to get from the Clarion to the Hawkeye Downs, and from what I noticed on Thur. many used the shuttle.

          I didn't have a sharpie however

Hey, if you are going to show the driver...introduce the driver...some of us would like to know who we should be grateful to. (or at least put a name with a face before we start picking on him)

That was Ed George's handywork, here's a picture I took of him drawing it.

The bus driver was Kenny from Iowa, he bought the bus for $5 from the school district he drives bus for. He volunteered his time, asked only for money for gas, he was getting 4 miles to the gallon. I think he had more fun than anyone else at the Meet!

Kenny told me that he plans to convert the bus into a camper for his granddaughter after the meet. He said that he intends to keep the exterior intact for the next couple of years!

His enthusiasm was contagious and my hat is off to him - Nice job Kenny!

Yep, he sure is. He lives 4 houses down from me so I'm lucky to have someone with lots of Studebakers nearby.

Too bad they didn't have that bus in South Bend! We won't need it in Glendale but how about future years??
Gas donations were mentioned, but how about his insurance bill?
                            THANKS AGAIN KEN!

That bus may not be a Studebaker (it's an International Harvester Loadstar designed by Ted Ornas) but at least the IH 'Man on a tractor' hood emblem was designed by Raymond Loewy. Seems that there is a Studebaker connection to everything on wheels.
