  • Chamion 2 door bullet nose

How wide is the body? I'm looking for 1, but have a very narrow doorway to shop.
Will the 1960 V8 with 3 speed manual & OD fit into a '50 Champion to replace a straight 6 with manual & OD? Any other moderate sized engines that may work with the manual trannie, like a Chevy V6 or 4 with about 100 hp?
Anything but ***, but prefer American made.
    Thanks, Ed

Not sure about the '50, but any Studebaker V8 will fit in a '51 commander, which looks almost exactly like a '50 Champion.

A '51 may look like a '50 to some, but it is a different animal. The 1950 and 1951 use completely different front suspension set ups. 1950 is a one year front end. The 1951 uses a front suspension that is very similar to those up through 1966, plus Avantis through 1985. A Studebaker V8 is an easy fit into a 1951, but not into a 1950. It can be made to fit into a 1950, but not so easy.

A 1949 Champion is 69 5/8 inches wide. I believe that a 1950 Champion is very close to that.

Saw a 48 Business coupe with a Stude V-8 engine at a Denton TX. meet a few years back, Guess it would go in a 50 also, just not as easy as a 51 up.

Even if a 51 is a champion it is a lot of work to make a V-8 work in it, fit yes no problem, getting everything to hook and work plan on a lot of running around looking for a 51 commander to see what is needed next, had a friend do that even with a 51 v-8 in my yard he was over every day and pulling his hair out, got it done and has a super nice car now, so going into the 50 with the different front end goooooooooooood luck
