  • Ebay Avanti sells early

Just drifted over to Ebay to see if I could pickup the rusty frame Avanti at a reasonable price.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tab%3DWatching

Much to my suprise, I found a note that said it was sold to the high bidder at the bid price. This was about one hour prior to the listing ending.

I surmise that either (not likely) it sold to a customer at a good price or (more likely) it was the only way to stop the bidding from ending at a lower price than desired. How do you define Shill Bidder.

What do you all think? [xx(]

Bob: According to ebay rules, you may not end an auction with less than 12 hours to go IF THERE IS A BID(S) on the item.

I've ended a auction early and sold to the high bidder before. That way ebay gets all it's fees. For example, someone may have offered him 3K for the Avanti, so he ends early and sells to that bidder at the agreed price.

That's what I thought but here is a copy of the Ebay procedures.

Apparently there is a way out. [xx(]

The seller told me on the phone the first $3000 offer would take it home. I was only willing to offer $1500. I don't know about the EBay situation.

I don't know about the workings of ebay; being the CASO that I am, I'm a Craigslist kind of guy.The phrase that really got me was,' right rear frame is soft behind the springs'.NAH.That would imply that there is frame rot AFT of the rear springs and not between the spring perches as in the picture. That in itself would have been the deal breaker for me.IMHO $1500 would have been a generous offer for this hound dog....

I told the guy that had the $3000 Avanti near me that I wanted to wait before excepting my lower offer. I felt someone with less knowledge about the cost of restoration then me might buy it to restore and save the car.
