  • SASCO CLOSING AT YEAR END !

Sadly, Dennis has to be out of the building by the end of the year. no idea on the fate of the parts at this point. Just horrible news.

If SASCO closes, Stude parts prices will skyrocket. And many (including most of us young guys) won't be able to afford parts anymore. I can see the SDC turning into a "rich man's" car club.

Maybe that means the value of my sedan will go up. [)]

      Oh boy. Good news, not!

I sure hope this doesn't degenerate into a rant thread like the one that occurred when they had the fire marshal issues a year or so ago.

If there is anything that we can do as individuals or as a club, let's offer our help.

There's words for this that I can't post here. I think I can use the word SUCKS!
I can't see how some of the obscure stuff's gonna escape the scrap heap.[V]

Guess I'll have to buy as much as possible before the summer's over. I hope they find a way to hang on...

The hard part for me will be watching the truck loads of parts heading to the dump. Even at scrap auction prices, who'll buy 1 1/2 ton truck rear axles, or even type 27 non TT rears ?

Ah man, I and I never got to go see the place first. I think I will be buying all I can before it closes. Sure hope something changes.

I got a ring side seat guys.NOTHING is going to change as far as the City is concerned. They just closed the deal on Underground Pipe and Valve, the Lathe Works is gone,Hamilton Towings property (East of SASCO) has had some city employees drilling test wells on it,I really think it is a done deal.South Bend has their history balled up in a nice new Museum (which I think we are EXTREMELY LUCKY to have) and they want all the old reminders GONE! I have watched the Mayor work his vision for the city, and I think manufacturing has no place in downtown proper. They want a office park setting for the downtown, and no old factory buildings to clutter the view.Think Indianapolis office park. That (IMO) is why they started Blackthorn industrial Park area West of Town.Buy your spare parts now.

I'm gonna have to sit down with the parts books and see if any of the hard to find stuff that I could see myself needing is still available...

Dennis ought to sit down with JC Whitney as soon as he can.

Sad to see this era coming to an end but not totally unexpected, considering the cities position on clearing that area of old factory buildings.

Most unfortunate! [:0] It would be nice to have some more details so that if there was something constructive we could do - it would be done.
