  • Got my Lark yesterday

My two boys and I got up early yesterday and made the trip to get my Lark. I bought it from Henry Walter (blacklarkviii). I know that some of you know who he is, but for those who don't, he is what this hobby is all about.
When we got there to get the car, he told me to unhook my trailer. We then proceeded to fill my truck to the top with Stude stuff. No charge. Wow, what a surprise. Engine stuff, nice suspension stuff, all kinds of parts that will take me some time to go through.
Unfortunately, Henry is getting out of Studebakers, but his acts of kindness will not be forgotten.
Now as far as the Lark, although it does need some work, I'll try an describe what I know about it. 259 with an edelbrock carb, disc brakes,(not original), new dual master cylinder, new exhaust, 64 dash, all new weatherstrip to go with it, and some misc NOS parts that I am still going through. The car runs well and stops on a dime, then gives you a nickle in change.
From what I have learned, this car was one of the last ones sold by Avanti Motors when they were still in Georgia. I remember seeing this car on Ebay a few years ago when they were selling off alot of their inventory.

I will be looking for some stuff for the car. I would like to find a good set of bumpers, a decent set of tail lights and some side trim that I hope to find in South Bend in a couple of weeks.(if my cash holds out) Someone covered all of the trim holes, but I plan to put Daytona trim on it.(I know it's probably not correct, but I like it!)
Overall I am tickled to death. I will include a pic or a link to pics.

The guy that lives across the street from me has a mother that comes to visit often. She reminds me of Mrs. Cravits on the Bewitched TV show. I was out this morning taking pics and she came out of her son's house saying, "Oh my Lord, what in the world has he drug home now?" Now I just need to figure out how to get to her.[}][}] I'd park it on the street in front of my house, but someone would run over it.

Looks like a good car. I remember buying some parts from HEnry years ago when I lived near Detroit. Sorry to hear that he's getting out of the hobby.

This is a really good car. Henry has done a lot of great work to it, including the front heavy duty disc conversion, stainless brake lines, the sweet running engine, etc, etc, etc. A LOT of the hard stuff is already done.

Nate, Henry is not getting out of the hobby, he's just switching brands.

                Sweet ride, Jamie; congrats!

"F" body Custom, bucket seats, V-8 with stick; great combo.

Looks solid, too, from what can be seen of the trunk interior.

You'll enjoy it. Good score. BP

I think I have a chrome cover for the side of the driver's seat. PM me with your address and I'll send it to you if you don't have one in the collection of parts he gave you.

SASCO usually has a pile of NOS later style Lark bumpers (the ones that wrap around on the end) on sale at the May swap meet at very reasonable prices ($35 each last time I was there). These have some storage issues, but if you sort through the pile you can usually come up with a couple pretty decent ones.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Bob, it has a few minor rust issues but nothing compared to what I am used to. Ths is my first Lark type car, so I have a lot to learn about them. This is also the newest Stude I have owned, so I'll probably have some questions come up.

Oh Boy! Another Studebaker to cruise the streets of Fayetteville. Don't let Jamie fool you, most of us do know that Henry is a great guy, but I do believe there is a bit of Karma in all of this.

                            Bring it by sometime soon!

I don't know if you need a whole tail light assembly, or just a replacement lens. I can't tell from the pictures or your description. The lenses are reproduced and are sold by a vendor for $65 plus shipping. They look nice. In case you need the whole assembly, or just want a less expensive lens, I have a whole '63 Lark/Cruiser tail light assembly. The lens is neither NOS nor show, but it is complete and looks nice. There is a crack down low. I would sell the assembly, including lens, for $35, plus $5 for S&H.
