  • George and Tracy's First Cruise Night

After replacing the battery and taking George to get an oil change, John anounced that he was taking George to his first cruise night. As you can see, it didn't happen as he had planned. For the first time, Tracy drove the Studebaker and John followed in the Brand X with the kids. This was the farthest that Tracy has driven George since he became a member of our family. We have been cautiously extending the length of his drives as we get to know his personality and quirks. We have determined that his gauges are not working properly, so we are being extra careful as we monitor his temperature, etc.

John thought it was so funny that he was driving the kids around while Tracy drove George to the cruise-in that he called all of his friends along the way and laughed at the evening's role reversal.

Tracy called John along the way to try to determine about how accurate George's speedometer is. According to the comparison (and a photo radar sign along the way), it appears that George's actual speed is 4-5 mph greater than what the speedometer reads.

Dare to be different! In a sea of red cars at the cruise in, George stood out with pride. Tracy even got to drive him home in the dark and is now determined to find a way to get his gauges to light up. All the exterior lighting works great, though, and we all had a blast!

Glad you are in the Cruise mode. Hope to see you folks at the Chapter meeting Saturday. I was at the Sanderson Ford show today. The Avanti's were well accepted. Those Canadian built cars with Ford engines you know.

That rocks, guys! It's so much fun to show off your car and watch people's reactions. Glad to see George out among his peers!

George is really quite a handsome fellow! Really the dapper gentleman amoungst such a collection of rakes in that lineup!

Tracy, I have similar problems with my gauge lights. However, I've found that slowly rotating the light switch after pulling it out will often produce a lit dash! Bess doesn't always cooperate, but most the time she will. A little gentle jiggling whilst turning sometimes helps too.

I'm glad to see you guys getting George out and ON THE ROAD~
right where all Studes ought to be!!! [] [^]

          Party on!!!!

I'm not sure what Ron's saying about your light switches.
They're just like his Parkview ought to have in it~
up and down they go. (off is in the center)
Also remember- your dash lights will only come on when
the parking or head lights are on...

Checking all of the bulbs would be where I'd start-
and posting of pictures is required.
You'll see why after you find them ALL... [)]

Dave; Ron is thinking that '57's are like '56's, they aren't.

'56's have push/pull for Parking/Head lights and twist for Instruments, and '57's have toggles like Hawks with a separate toggle for Instruments, which needs to be up for High with the Lights on, it is possible that the Instr. Lt. switch is bad if bulbs are good, but most have at least some burned out bulbs.

Lookin' good! Thanks for the report and pics. BP

Tracy and John, nice ride, and it looks good with the other cars, over the years I have taken a Studebaker to street fairs and small cruise nights, and even some larger things and have found out at these if you want to draw a crowd bring a Studebaker or even any orphan car and if you want the crowd to get larger then open the hood and have a supercharger sitting on top people forget real fast the other every day hot rod and rat rod and and just marvel at it..Bob

I love the picture of the Stude parked between the "normal" cars at the cruze. Also, the shot of your smiling wife driving brings a smile to me face, reminds me of my better half in her native environment.

What fun! I took the Champ out today, even a short stint on the Interstate. Lots of looks and smiles. Made me feel as happy as Tracy looks in that gorgeous new Studebaker!
