  • Studebaker's in the woodpile

Well I always thought that the Studebaker thing was just because of my Husband David. His Family came out west in a 2 Ton Red Studebaker Truck Vintage 1951. He had a 1959 Silverhawk Black & White when he was about 19 he always regretted selling it. We got our first Studebaker a 1957 SilverHawk in October of 2000. Well today I was going through my late Aunts old Albums and low and behold here is my Great Aunt Jessie in Cordell Oklahoma with a 1954 two Door Studebaker.

And then I find My Cousins that live here in Fresno Christmas picture.

So apparently there were Studebakers on My side of the family too. Now that explains the addiction.

    Literally "in the blood"![:0]

No deceptive flags to prove I'm patriotic - no biblical BS to impress - just ME and Studebakers - as it should be.

Real nice "period" photos, Anne! Not that that we're counting, but the 2 dr. Sedan is an Early 1953 probably a Champion, that part is hard to tell from that distance.

Looks like the Cook family had a '61 Lark 4 dr. Wagon, great family car! [^]

Remember when families took their Easter Sunday and other significant days photos by their trusty car? In those days we were PROUD of them, who today would do that? They would never know 10 years from now, if that thing was a Honda, Toyota, Mazda, Nissan or Hyundai, so why bother certainly nothing to be proud of! [xx(]

Now David and I went back and forth on that one I said early 53 he said he could see grill bars so therefore it was a 54.

          Hi Anne,

It's a '54. It has the large bumper guards.

          Kindest regards,

Great find. Reminds me of the one I found of my wife when she was about 4 or 5 years old standing in her Dad's R series truck door!

You win. Blowing up the picture shows it clearly as a '53. First '53 or later I ever saw with a visor.

So, why the large bumper guards?

A horse walks in to a bar. The bartender says, "So, why the long face?"

Sorry! It was a free association thing.

I would love to find a picture of my Grandad with his Studebaker; the one that became my first Studebaker, of which I have no pictures.[V]

                  A bear walks in to a bar, says,"Give me a shot.............................................and a beer."
The bartender says, "Why the big paws?"

As I said before, not that it REALLY matters, but I think there is more chance of a '53 having '54 bumper guards added in late '53 or '54 than a fairly new car having it's hood ornament changed BACK to an obsolete discontinued early '53 one. [:0]

Until you enlarge it, this car appears to POSSIBLY have teeth on the grille bars, but after enlarging it, is clear that there are none.
Mystery solved. [^] If some of you choose to believe that it's a '54, that's OK too!
It would be cool if that car showed up somewhere in the area!

It appears to be a sedan. All 1953-1954 sedans had the tall bumper guards. Only the 1953 C/K models had the short bumper guards.

The '53 Sedan only guards look like '62-'66 guards, tall yes but thin and rounded not flat and wide like these '54's. Just a few days ago someone posted that beautiful Maui Blue '53 Land Cruiser with the correct '53 Sedan guards.

Those 1953 long wheel base sedans are sure pretty. My Dad had a maroon one.

Ann, what great pictures. I have seen somewhere of my grand dad and me next to his '52 Studebaker. I'll have to try and track that down. I also have one of my Dad and Me with his early 2R. Now where are those things? Gee I wish I could keep up with stuff like Leonard does.....
