  • Need a pic of a '56 sedan headliner/dome light

OK. Started with the headliner on the '56 sedan. When I dragged the car home 15 months ago there was not a single remant of headliner left--just the bows. I bought a headliner from Phantom and went to start the install this morning. Did I mention to you how much I HATE HATE HATE doing headliners?

Anyway, it looks to me like the domelight assembly has been bent severely in my car, as it sits at angle pretty much parallel with the ground--there's no way the headliner can be installed cleanly with the dome light at this angle. I am assuming that the dome light should be at an angle that pretty much follows the contour of the roof. Right? I don't want to go to the trouble of pulling it out and bending it if I am missing something obvious. Funny that it doesn't LOOK like anyone has been yanking on it . . .

There are no pics in the Shop Manual and I went looking through the archives here to no avail. So, any of you with a '56 or '57 sedan with a domelight who have a pic or are willing to TAKE a pic and post it here, I would very much appreciate it, as I plan to get back at this in the AM.

By the way, got the dash done today as well. Another job I HATE HATE HATE.

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY OR ALL HELP!

OK Allan; I'll have you know I would not do this for just ANYONE!
A closeup of a '57 Commander 2 dr. Sedan, should be just like your '56, I have no idea who's car it is, it was just driving by! [}]

Here is a distant shot for location prospective.

Thanks, buddy! I now know that my light housing has been bent about 1.5 inches down and as I assumed it should follow the contour of the headliner . . .

What fun it will be to remove and straighten it!!

Allan, That picture StudeRich sent you must be a pretty rare shot. I noticed that your request went without a reply for quiet some time. I figured it might be because lots of folks are out playing with their cars at meets, etc, and not monitoring the forum on such a great Saturday. So, I thought I would search for a picture for you. I searched forum pictures, eBay, and "googled" for a shot of a headliner. Now I realize that almost nobody includes headliner shots! No matter what kind of car, year, model or make! Good luck with the install and a special salute to StudeRich!
