  • I'm Going To Sell The Commander

It's will reluctance that I have to sell the '64 Commander. I'd like to get $800 out of it. I have the pictures I've taken so far and will add more tomorrow. The car does not run. It's a OHV 6 with a 3-speed w/OD. The care is white with a green interior. There is a 1-bbl carb that is not hooked up to the fuel line. Consider this an opportunity to 'BUY IT NOW' as I'll put it up on Ebay on Sunday night. If you have any questions, fire away.

Oh, there is rust. The drivers floor has a hole, the cowl has some rust, the rockers have some rust and the panel below the rear window has some rust. The quarters appear solid. The front clip is rusty but fortunately everything is available. Again, I'll get more pictures tomorrow. It should make a great drag car with some work.

I did pull the front carpet to get the wetness away from the floor pan, and the car has been dry in a garage since January.

I'm tempted, that'd make a decent little driver...

But I have too many cars as it is, so someone else buy it.

You know, Tom... I'm really glad you and that car[:X][] are both in Florida![}] I'm already in enough trouble out here on the other coast. Wish I did have the cash though. I'm looking to do just such a thing. That is to say, put together a six/OD. Like a '56 Champion 2dr or even a 4dr. Just something to potter around with and get somewhat better mileage than Bess gets.

All the best on getting your Commander a proper home.

Waitaminit! Didn't the Commander have an eight and the Champion a six[?] So, when they started using the names again, was Champion dropped? I suppose because of the pickup (Champ)?

Ron; after 1958 when the Champion/Commanders were dropped, and also after the '59-'61 Lark VI/VIII thing, engines were no longer related to Body trim names, for the MOST part. There were a few exceptions, like the Standard engines in U.S. Daytonas (259), Cruisers and Hawks (289).

Pine needles. The car was under a pine tree at the previous owner's home.

I want it! I can afford it! But I don't live in Florida...and my wife would kill me. (that is not a joke... she would pull off a plug wire, strangle me with it, then put me in the back seat and dump the thing in the Missouri river. Then there would be this article a few years (or months) later in the newspaper about a mans body found at the bottom of the river in a Studebaker... Then you all would talk about it here on the forum, with links to the article and pictures of the Commander after it was pulled from the mud. Then, after the trial, someone would get it to restore)

1963 Lark, 259 V8, two-tone paint, Twin Traction. Now that the salt is off the roads, she is getting back into regular rotation!

And that's what I'm offering . It may do better on Ebay, or it may not. I'll be in downtown St. Pete over the weekend working the Grand Prix. My cell number for Saturday or Sunday is (813) 523-1899 (I'll delete the number Monday ). But I'll be Ebaying it Sunday night when I get home. I need the money and I need to cut my expenses (2nd garage).
