I have a 63'GT Hawk R1 (low engine and serial #s,) heavy duty automatic, column shift, no tach, built in late September '63, Ermine White with the green interior. The entire body is being stripped and repainted. I'm thinking about going with a '62 or '64 green, as I am not a real fan of the '63 green. The car will be nice, but not a trailer queen. What is the consensus, new color vs. keeping the Ermine White?

If your looking for a cool green color look at a 95 Ford Truck green. It's a dark green pearl that looks black until the sun hits it then it flips to a great looking green metallic. Painted a bronco a couple years ago this color for a guy in Fargo ND. I forget the name of it but if interested let me know and I will look it up.

If you are going to keep the green interior, you may have trouble getting a green exterior to look good with it...especially if you are going to use a green not used by Studebaker in 63. There is a wide range of greens and many combinations would hurt your eyes.. With a black interior or other neutral color, you can paint your car any color you want. With a green interior you have to be very careful.
You say you have a low serial number and that your car was built in September of 63. Do you mean built in September of 62?

I'm painting a 64 Daytona convertible "jet green" the closest match from spectrum analyzing was a Porsche color called "racing green". Very nice color.Bez Auto Alchemy

Hi,
I have a New Old Stock interior for that car in the metallic green with door trim parts here in the UK.
Some of the seat covers you will have to work with to change the inserts out from cloth to Vinyl inserts I have, but I have a roll of genuine vinyl to match as well.
In relation to colour, I would stick with factory 1963 colours for better re sale value for an R series car. The Green Mist for 63 is rarely seen and would look great today as a fresh paint job, if you can't handle the Ermine White.

The trouble with the metallic green interior for a 63 is that it is a much richer green than the one used in a 64. So if you run with the 64 Horizon light Green it's going to look odd. Same for the 62 metallic green.
You could go with the 64 Jet Green.
Just don't paint the car that light flat green they had in 63 - It's a shocker of a colour and I can't recall it's name. Unless you love that 63 flat green colour then of course its a great colour to run with....Greg Diffen
