  • Serial number plate (Door jamb) for '55 Commander

Can someone provide me with a picture of the proper serial number plate for a '55 Commander? A friend is missing theirs and needs to know what the correct size, shape, etc. is. We don't need the numbers, just the correct format. Thanks

Here is a '55 President Coupe, it looks like the same Black Block Style, but by '56 they must have added Packard to it, they were already TWO Years Late doing that in '55.

I can't help with the size but it will fit between the Dimples for the Welds and the 2 locating screw holes on the Door Post.

For others that may be interested, the '56 to '62 would look like this Pic # 2 of 1958 Silver Hawk.

As you can clearly see from these very typical examples, Engineering had it all figured out, & idiot proofed, just line up the Notches with the screw holes, install 2 Screws and Weld all 4 Corners to keep it secure.

HOWEVER, with the infinite wisdom of UAW Local 5 line workers, they just masking taped it on any old way, hit it often times twice, diagonally with the Arc Welder, and saved 2 Screws and maybe a Minute or two.

Engineering even gave them 4 Dimples to put the Welds into! Did it happen... Never.
