Just thought I’d ask. I’ve seen one in my life and that was probably fifty years ago. It was in Southern California and although it wasn’t at all rusted it was fatigue cracked around a body mount.

I assumed that Studebaker primed the steel floor pans with sodium chloride prior to applying paint. Perhaps they inadvertently skipped that process on a few Champs that left the factory?sigpic

Rich's Champ pictured in post #6 above had the advertising and yellow light on the cab added by the previous owner to give the truck a nostalgic look. I saw the truck a few years ago when it was for sale at a body shop in Snohomish (body shop owners were friends of the seller), and I asked about the advertising at that time. The body shop added the advertising, then rubbed a chain across the surface to give it some patina.
Yes, that's a snow mobile in the bed, and it was a package deal included with the truck.
Rich got a good buy. It was a solid truck, ran well, and was a good price.Mark L

I think the floor in my Champ was the best looking metal in it, but most of the rust was not thru many places around the body... just a few spots, under the grille and at the fender/ rocker panel areas had some rust-thru. Probably should have kept it longer until the "Patina-Fad" was in full swing, ha ! This truck was sold new and spent it's entire life around Lawrenceburg, TN. until I got it and hauled it off to North Alabama. After I sold it.... ?????

It's not Me though, so all of that "Patina" has to go and become the Beautiful Regal Red that is actually Under that Dull Red "Patina Coat".
The Only thing I kinda Like is that Cool no longer around here, Co. Logo "Texaco".StudeRich

Lou, at the Upper Right side of the New Post Window there is a Advanced Editor Icon "A".
You need to turn that ON by clicking it, that will Turn ON the Upload Attachments and Upload from URL Buttons at the Bottom.StudeRich
