What is this part? From a 57 Clipper with Supercharger

Good Evening--- What the heck is this? It is located directly behind the generator on the passengers side of the car. It appears to be attached to the motor and has a two pins with a rubber cap over them. The strange thing is that the other end of the that connects to the two pins by the motor has a period correct two prong 120VAC electrical plug. (To me, it looks as if it would be a engine heater connection...

That’s exactly what it might be - an immersion block heater. That’s just a guess.

While I grew up in “warmer Canada”, it was common to see these working up in the North.

There seems to be a Carter name embossed in the case, pic 2?

Yes sir you have a good eye and you are correct. It does have Carter stamped on it...
