Today with 72 degrees, the Southern Arizona Chapter had a burger, hot dog and chicken cookout Everyone brought a dish to share with desserts, lettuce and tomato, lemon cheesecake, chips, chili, baked beans and more. We also maintained social distance and masks when needed. Everyone there has received a vaccination. We also had entertainment with a singer/saxophonist's at the Fort Lowell park in Tucson.
Here is the most unusual thing that happened. We sold tickets for the 50/50 raffle and two other door prizes. Jim and Audrey Thompson drove their 50 Commander Starlight from Wilcox, around an hour away on I-10 and won the total pot of $136.00. Their winning ticket had the last three numbers of 259. The next two tickets drawn for the door prizes the last three numbers were 304 and 245. That has never happened ever
, all Studebaker engine displacements.
We had 35 people attend and 13 Studebakers from a 1937 Dictator Coupe to a 1989 Avanti Convertible, with 2 61 Hawks (one was the blue car the SDM sold on EBAY), a 62 and 63 GT and a few 50's and different sedans.
We all think maybe things will continue to improve and we are coming back after the year everyone has experienced.
