  • 1927 Replica Indy Car At Auction Sells For . . .

The real thing sold at auction a few months ago for about 1.5 million dollars.
A replica of the same car just sold at Mecum Dallas for $9,000. Wow!

    Is/was it a Studebaker chassis?

Don't know. I am at work and had to have the sound off. There may be information about it on the Mecum site.

An interesting car, but a long ways from being an Indy racer replica.

Thanks for the link. Yes it is a very cool car. It seems like it should have brought more than $9000. I couldn't see what engine it is running, but if I had been there, it would have been hard to keep my hand down.

A custom speedster, but not even vaguely an Indy car replica. Even so, I'd probably have paid $9,000 and thought I'd gotten a bargain.

Hardly an Indy replica, especially with a six cylinder engine. It is kind of neat for what it is. To me, it appears to be an early car with the fenders and rear section removed and a boat tail fabricated. This is how many race cars started, but I would look at this as more of a hot rod street car (if you are where you can drive without fenders).

It looks like it would be fun to drive around town though.

I could not live with the hood going uphill to the radiator. Looks well built though.

It's advertised as a "Studebaker Speedster Replica"...not as a Replica Indy Car. I think it meets the advertised description.

I'm not sure the hood is going uphill. Maybe just the camera lens or angle? Other pictures look more acceptable...

They had to work at it, however, to install the seat backwards.

Always drive before you buy. I had a friend who thought the Excaliber was the coolest thing he'd ever seen and paid top dollar for one at auction. His wife refused to ride in it at all, but he drove it twice; hated the wind whipping, hated the rough ride, hated the noise, hated feeling exposed and sold it at a substantial loss.

This '27 will be the same, only slower, noisier and more cramped.

Oh, Jack, how can you be so heartless? Think of the thrilling roar of the exhaust, the wind in your hair (or maybe a nice leather helmet and goggles), and someone snuggled close to you!
