  • 1958 Hawk Vin Tag Attachment

    This is probably discussed somewhere but I haven't been successful searching for it. My car came with the original vin tag detached - probably for the repaint. I'd like to know how to reattach it. Was it originally spot welded, riveted or screwed on?

    If by "VIN tag" you mean the Serial Number tag, it was spot welded on. The body number tag is screwed on.

      Here is one:

      Click image for larger version  Name:	58SHCoppertone8.jpg Views:	0 Size:	100.1 KB ID:	1855479 Engineering designed those Notches on the Left and Right Edges of the Serial Number Plate to have screws in the Holes in the Door Post to temp. hold it for welding, and welds in the Dimples, but they were taped on in Production, so you can see how most of them are fitted/misaligned.
