    In the late 60s Rolls Royce bought the patent for the Packard automatic transmission electric gear selection feature and installed them in their cars. They chose to go with a small gear selector handle rather than the push button. They may have determined there were some bugs with the push button feature that they wanted to eliminate. Not sure.
    I was parking cars in the Hollywood area at that time and remember getting into a new RR. When I selected a gear I heard that familiar click, click, click. I immediately knew what it was.

      Surprised nobody's mentioned the seat belts. Seems to me this system was unique to S-P and the 1956MY.

        Chrysler pushbuttons were mechanically operated via cable. FoMoCo and Packard pushbuttons were electric.
