  • Avanti emblem location GT Hawk

    Hi Everyone,
I was going through some Turning Wheels back issues and was reviewing the article on Page 22 on the May, 2019 issue regarding '64 Hawks. In it is shown the location of the oval Avanti Powered emblems as being BELOW the air vent doors. Forward to the great article on Richard Paul from November 2019 and on pages: 35,36,38 and 39 are clearly visible photos of those same emblems ABOVE the air vent doors. My reason for clarity of this is that way back in the early 70's I built my first (and only) R4 clone GT Hawk and I thought, errantly I had placed the R4 oval emblems above the vent doors as is evident on Richard's GT. I must have seen a picture somewhere to determine that location instead of the more popular location below the doors.
Once again I can't post pictures here as they are too large. So you'll have to use your imagination.
    Cheers, Bill

I have never seen a production '63 or '64 Hawk with the Avanti Powered or Avanti Supercharged emblems anywhere but below the vents. I have two '64 Hawks, both factory R1 powered, and the emblems are both below the vent. I also have a '63 Hawk R2 and the Avanti Supercharged badge is also below the vent.

It would have made more sense to me for them to be above the vents so one didn't have to bend over to read them, but that's not where Studebaker put them.

I have never seen any '64 GT Hawks with Jet Thrust Badges anywhere BUT Below the vent Door.

However, It has always been my opinion that they SHOULD have been above, due to better visibility and would look better.

Just an Owner or Body Shop applied Emblem, probably on a replaced Fender. But I have not read the article.

What's good enough for the catalog and good enough for Sid is good enough for me.
